NAHBS 2008: A DeSalvo BMX Inspired 29"er

Editors Note: Crooked Cog’s own Richard “Fritz” Masoner attended the 2008 NAHBS held in Portland, Oregon and shot the following pic. He also brings us the following report. Thanks!

Here’s Mike De Salvo with a 29er he built up special for a customer. Says De Salvo:

“I built this SE Quadangle inspired 29 inch singlespeed mountain bike at a special request of a customer. As a kid he coveted the SE Quadangle BMX. A bully living on his block had one, and told the customer that if he ever got one also, he’d beat him up! I’ll bet the bully won’t want to run into my customer on the trails today now that he’s grown to 6’6″ and 300 lbs!”

Thanks Fritz. Great story. I’m sure this bike will bring miles of smiles for Mike’s customer and the BMX aesthetic is really cool.

That will most likely close out our coverage of NAHBS from a 29″er standpoint, but look for Fritz’s coverage of the main theme of the show- commuter and utilitarian bikes- on Commute By Bike.

SWeet! I was wondering when some one would come out with a BMX 29er, no less inspired by SE. I might just have to look into a Desalvo.

    I want! Gimme!

I’ve got a Desalvo steel road bike from Mike last year. It is an incredible ride! Mike is superb to work with and is really knowledgable. I wouldn’t hesitate twice about getting another bike from him.
    Cheers.

I bet the bully wouldn’t be running in to him but passing him at 6’6″ and 3 bills.

  5. yo bully Says:

The bully is now a degenerate alcholic wife beater who lives in a trailer, but still rides his quad 25 years later.

  6. Yo Ma-Ma Says:

I thought it was an old model Cannondale that got a paint job.

  7. bully Says:

Bully rides three wheeler not quad.

  8. yo bully Says:

If you think it’s an old Cannondale you don’t get it.
    Your bully rides a tricycle?

  9. Steve Says:

    Trademarks?

  10. Desert9r Says:

Steve go to http://www.sebikes.com and look up the Quadangle bike.

  11. Steve Says:

‘landing gear’ and the shape of the SE logo are iconic. Probably protected.

    Just my inner attorney talking.

  12. Yo Ma-Ma Says:

Ah I see… I SHOULD have said it LOOKS like an old Cannondale. But then you would have said something else and tried to be a dick in some other fashion.

Please excuse my ‘Not Getting It’.

In defense of the Cannondale train-of-though, i too see that Cannondale “look”, so your not totally off. 🙂

  14. Desert9r Says:

Oh and about the Landing Gear fork, Todd Lyons, SE’s Big Cheese, he is pretty easy to get ahold of. (to get permission to use “Landing Gear” a/o mod a fork)
